iSchools includes textile painting in CampBlog

CampBlog has taken it a notch higher.

After helping public high school students to write, take photos, and upload these to their respective blogs and websites, the program has encouraged them to take up mural painting.

The move will allow them to “explore new venues for self-expression and creativity,” said Dang Gamboa, Creative Arts Specialist of the iSchools Project.

The project, a government initiative that integrates Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with education, recently conducted its CampBlog series in three major geographical clusters nationwide (Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao).

As the third set of CampBlog implementation, iSchools Project Management Office reinvents the camp by adding mural painting in the lineup of the camp’s everyday activities. The camp meant to create an online publication for each participating school.

“After long hours of conceptualization, the iSchools Project Management Office decided to add the mural painting session in the implementation design of CampBlog,” Gamboa said. “This activity is iSchools’ way of showing that learning can be fun.”

In the CampBlog rollouts in Luzon and Mindanao, each participating school created its very own mural guided by the theme of transforming their print newspaper to an online publication. The mural painting schedule is squeezed in between the regular scheduled sessions in the whole six days duration of the blogging camp.

“The mural painting time allowance was crafted to serve as both educational activity and as an icebreaker for the camp. The students need time to allow them to snap out of their boredom and day dreams,” Gamboa added.

All murals are instructed to be displayed in the CampBlog computer laboratories of the participating schools.

In their own ways, these murals represent the schools’ attempts to bridge the digital divide even just by strokes, lines and colors.
